Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). TDOR is to remember the lives of trans people, majority transwomen and transwomen of color, who have lost their lives due to the violence that is transphobia.

“Transgender people have survived throughout the darkest chapters in history, and they have created some of the richest and most beautiful subcultures despite their circumstances. This population is resilient. They have shown throughout time that they will persevere despite inequality and violence—but there are some threats that prove inescapable.”

On TDOR we can remember and honor the lives of those we’ve lost, re-examine the erasure trans communities have experienced throughout history, reconnect with those who are still here and re-commit to fighting for the rights of trans people to exist and thrive.
